About Lorraine

I am a retired special education teacher. Teaching yoga allows me to continue to feel the joy that I felt as a public school teacher. As a special needs teacher, my focus was always on developing methods and modifications that would allow my students to succeed. I bring this same philosophy to teaching yoga. Yoga can benefit “every body” regardless of previous injuries, tight muscles, medical condition, etc. We simply have to begin wherever we are. By accepting where we are as we begin to practice yoga we begin to learn to listen to the wisdom our bodies. Developing this awareness is practicing yoga.
When not teaching or practicing yoga I enjoy spending time with my
family and friends, working in my flower garden and traveling. My
husband and I have traveled extensively throughout the United States –
mostly on camping trips with our children when they were young. Now we
enjoy the convenience of camping in our motor home! We have done some
overseas traveling and recently returned from a trip to Australia and
New Zealand. I am eager to plan our next adventure!

I attended my first yoga class some years ago, not knowing
what to expect. As the teacher led us in an opening
meditation/breathing exercise and then some gentle neck and shoulder
stretches, my thoughts were “Let’s get on with this! I came here for
some exercise!” Next, she skillfully guided us into yoga postures.
Now my thoughts changed into “No way! I can’t do that”. At the end of
class when the teacher guided us into savasana/relaxation pose, my mind
screamed: “I have too much to do! I can’t just lie here for the next 10
minutes!”

But I did and I was amazed at how good I felt after class.
I was energized and refreshed. How well I slept that night; my usual
anxieties and worries were alleviated. I have been doing yoga ever
since. So you can see that yoga works its magic even on a reluctant
participant!
That was over ten years ago and the effects of yoga on my mind, body and spirit continue to amaze me. Although I am ten years older, my body can now move in ways that were impossible for me ten years ago. Meditation has become an integral part of my life. And relaxation pose! Now is it my favorite part of class!
Yoga will give you benefits at whatever stage you are in right now. You will move better, feel better, and deal with life’s stresses with greater ease. Yoga is truly a joining of your mind, body and spirit.
